SPRING BREAK TIME!

Here we are again facing another spring in Vancouver – and what a spring it has been. With the early blooms and high temperatures the city streets have been buzzing. As anyone with kids knows this is the middle of the Spring Break for the majority of lower mainland schools. Are you in need of hump day advice on what to get up to next with your family? What about getting out of town, or perhaps trying something new as a family? I found some great stuff to fill even the pickiest of plates that will be sure to bring smiles to your faces, young and old.

Lynn Canyon Park & Maplewood Farm in North Vancouver

Feel like getting out of town but don't want to drive too far for a family friendly day trip from Vancouver? Then just head north! There are two star attractions for kids in North Vancouver--which are also close enough together to combine into one trip--Lynn Canyon Park and Maplewood Farm.

Lynn Canyon Park is famous for its free suspension bridge, which kids will love, and is also wonderful for kids 5+ to hike around and enjoy the lush forest scenery. (Kids under 5 may find the walking a bit tough and Lynn Canyon Park unfortunately is not accessible to strollers.) The entire park is free! YES free!

For the kiddies under 5 years of age, including babies and toddlers there is the nearby Maplewood Farm. This farm is a must-visit. It is the only place to pet animals in Vancouver; Maplewood Farm lets kids get up close and personal with gentle goats, sheep, cows, and bunnies. They can meet the farm hands, ask questions and learn without even realizing it! This place really has a special, warm feeling to it. The children (and you for that matter) can hold and feed the animals, there are self-guided tours, and they even host birthday parties. Maplewood Farm gets you outside and back to nature and away from all the busy-busy hustle and bustle of real life. Allowing for you and yours to slow down and smell the roses…and a goat!

BC Place Playdome

Canada’s largest indoor carnival has come back to Vancouver. Over 45 attractions and rides, and it never rains! They have a ride called Zero Gravity that makes you feel like your floating with the astronaut’s, as well as a ride called The Ring of Fire – a circular open air car roller coaster that spins you around and around at very high speeds. Not sure if I would be brave enough, but if you’re a thrill seeker, perhaps this one is for you! Popular favorites such as 1001 nights, The Ferris Wheel and the Zipper all back and ready to be enjoyed. This one stop shop amusement park has it all; enjoy games, lots of crazy named food items and an energetic atmosphere. Enough diversity is offered for all ages to enjoy, and offering to take your family may even get teenagers out the door and off the computer!
